One of these debug features allows you to disable the part of macOS which is causing the hang. NVRAM settings are saved in a dedicated chip in your Mac and determines settings such as the audio volume your Mac starts from, the output volume for sound, and which, if any, debugging features are enabled. If you want to prevent this hang, there is a setting in the computer’s NVRAM, which can be changed as a temporary fix.

I can’t say when Apple will release the fix for this problem, but in the past, when they have been alerted to a hang or kernel panic, they had it resolved in the next update to macOS. Once we proved the hang was not a problem with the SoftRAID driver, we alerted Apple engineers to the issue and collected further information to help them with their investigation. We then were able to reproduce the hang on an AppleRAID volume, using the AJA System Test Lite test application. Using a kernel debugger, we determined that the hang was not caused by an error in the SoftRAID driver. Anytime we hear about this type of problem, we immediately start looking for a cause.Ī day later, we were able to reproduce the problem 100% of the time by copying 300 GB of large (10 GB) files from one SoftRAID RAID volume to another. Please continue to use windowed mode.ĭisabling the Shop and playing in offline mode worked for me! Although now when I try to re-install some Store content, it says I need a software update even though it’s updated. Just start a new save in Sunset Valley and let me know how it goes. Don't add anything to it yet, and don't change the graphics settings, although messing with the other settings is fine. When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.
If that doesn't help, please move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop. Does it help if you play while your computer is offline? You can sign into Origin and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before launching the game. It's definitely strange that you can't force quit in windowed mode. Memories especially can load down your saves, and even if you have the RAM to handle it (you do), the game engine has enough to handle without the extra data.
